One of the random days when the kids and I were in Seattle we came upon a display for the milk box derby race that is a part of Seafair. Of course we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to make a boat out of milk cartons and actually float it… So we did. This being our first attempt and us being the procrastinators that we are we settled on a very easy design… Tape a bunch of milk cartons to the bottom of a piece of plywood. It works!
Our original strategy was to have the older two paddle while the middle two kicked at the back and the younger two rode on the float looking pretty. We may have to fine tune that strategy for next year….
The good news is that we came in 4th and the people who came in 3rd had to leave early so we got bumped up and got to compete in the final race.
Some of the boats were really creative. Our favorite was Percy.
In-between races we played in the water and hung out. It was a great day and a great experience. One that we will definitely repeat.
Isaac entered a contest during the Milk Derby and ended up winning a spot in the Seafair parade. He was really excited however, a week before they called to say that the portion he was in was being cancelled and could they offer us Seafair tickets to see the Hydro planes race instead? Yes, you most definitely can!
One of the booths was the Marines and they had it set up so that you could test your strength. Michael tried the chin ups and the push ups. (I do not foresee a future in the military for him).
The Blue Angels came again. I haven’t seen them since I was young. They are always so amazing.
P.S. can you please start saving milk cartons for us to use next year? Washed with caps attached please.
