Bedtime songs

I have just finished tucking my little ones in and endeavoring to put them to sleep. Everyonce in awhile the request will come in that I sing them "their" song, or that I sing a song and they guesse "whose" it is.
Esch one of my children have a song. "The song" that I sing to them on those long nights of rocking and feeding and comforting.
I guess it started with me and my song. I still remember my mother singing this to me so clearly although I can't remember the last time she sang it. I remember the song and the comfort.
This was my song,

Not sure why but when I had Seri, I started singing her this song that I learned in elementary School in the choir. I was surprised to come across the song put to this tribute but can say it has new meaning for me now.

With Michael we had a tape of lullabys by Nicolette Larson. This song just seemed so appropriate for him. Unfortunately it is not on Youtube yet, but here are the lyrics.

Isaac was born in Germany where the only American programming was brought to us courtesy of good old AFN. Which means we got a lot of old programming. When I was pregnant with him I watched an episode of one of my favorite shows "7th Heaven". At the end of it the older girl had her baby brother in a sling and was singing this to him. That's when I knew this would be his song.

Sariah's song also came off a lullaby tape. Unfortunaty I can't find these yrics anywhere. Guess I wil resort to the old way of just typing them out myself.

You're my itty, bitty, baby girl
Daddy's pride, Mama's world
Tiny treasure, so complete
Great is the joy that you bring
to your daddy and me.

Our love for you
will only grow stronger each day
But right now
You're the perfect size
to hold in my arms
to look in your eyes and say

You're my itty, bitty, baby girl
Daddy's pride, Mama's world
Tiny treasure, so complete
Great is the joy that you bring
to your daddy and me.

Tristan's song is also off the Nicolette Larson tape;

With all the children Matt has sung this song since the day they were born.

What a great post! I love that you have a song for each child. And I also found it very interesting that none of them are those "go to" bedtime songs for kids that most people sing. The are all very unique, and songs I have never heard. 90% of the songs I sing come from the children's songbook. I guess I need to get a little more culture in my life. :-)
