Tristan Joseph

Guesse this child already plays by rules that are entirely his own. From the moment he was concieved seems he has been in a hurry. Couldn't wait his obligatory three years like the other children, then he had the nerve to come before his due date!
Tuesday , April 15, started out normal. I took the kids to Coop and was feeling tired and impatient but nothing new really. After Coop we had lunch at the park with friends and my mother who had come into town from Kennewick for an appt. We then headed off the the midwifes for a weekly appt. were everything was deemed perfect. We discussed how much longer I thought I had and I stuck to my story of having at least two weeks and probably going into May. I then mentioned how Matt thought I wouldn't last out the week and when asked why he replied that he couldn't really pinpoint why it just seemed different this time.
Came home and blogged on another site, mentioned that I had been having BH all day long and that if they continued like that until his birth I would go nuts, still expecting to go another two weeks. Mom stopped by the house and we chatted for a few hours. She considered staying overnight but then decided it would be best if she headed back on the ofur hour drive home.
After putting the children to bed I ran out to indulge a craving for chinese food. When I came back home Michael was upset so I went to his room to comfort him. Sat down on his bed with him on my lap. When I went to get up I felt my water break. Headed to the bathroom thinking that I must be mistaken. My due date was more than a week away and I have always gone over due. Matt came and confirmed that it was probably my water.
Based on how quick my other deliveries were we switched into high gear and tarped the bedroom and bathroom, started filling the birth pool and the crock pots with water, put plastic under the sheets on the bed, made sure all the other supplies were ready and......... still I felt nothing.
Matt went off with the children to play xbox and I ate my dinner and then sat around waiting for something to happen. My water broke about 9:30 and I didn't have timeable contractions until after midnight. Matt finally started calling the midwives and friends about 1:30.
This labor was completely different. I have never had breaks before and am used to hard labor straight through. Here I would have about ten contractions and then a fifteen minute rest. Instead of enjoying the rest I was frustrated and pacing, wishing things were moving a little faster.
We finally got into the birth pool and things seemed to move a bit quicker. Pushing was once again hell....... How I wish we could do this without the whole pushing part.
Tristan Joseph was delivered by his Dad at 4:35 am. Seemed like a horribly long labor to me, but in perspective I guesse it wasn't all that long.
Having him at home was wonderful and perfect in every way. we were in a comfortable environment where we were in charge and were surrounded by family and friends. All of the children were there to witness his birth.
The next day Matt continued to talk about how delivering Tristan was the most amazing thing he has ever done and about how much "fun" everyone had and how they all "enjoyed" it. I asked him to refrain from using the words "fun" and "enjoy" in regards to the experience for at least a week.
Tristan is doing great and is such a laid-back baby so far. His siblings all adore and can't get enough of him and of course Matt is on cloud nine with having another baby in the family. Adjusting to five has taken a bit, but I believe we are beginning to get a hold on things.
I still marvel and am in awe at how blessed we are. Five perfect, healthy, happy children. I often find myself just holding him and looking at him in silence, wondering how it is that I and God have created something like this. I'm not sure it gets any better than this.
